It was a special day to share not only a wine (the Sauvignon \u201cExtempore\u201d) and a document (the 2024 Sustainability Report), but above all, a vision.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the event, attention was focused on a concept as captivating as it is relevant: <\/span><b>spontaneity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, reinterpreting a term often associated with the art of improvisation, both <\/span><b>in winemaking and entrepreneurship<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The inspiration comes from one of Venica &amp; Venica\u2019s signature wines, the Sauvignon. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><b>Extempore<\/b><b>\u201d<\/b><b> is a Sauvignon that came about almost by chance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, originating in 2004 from an experimental aging in barrique, repeated over time with a clearer sense of direction. It is a testament to how unplanned events can yield extraordinary results.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>The value of the unexpected.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>The ability to welcome the unexpected and turn it into possibility<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a philosophy that has long accompanied the Venica family. Gianni Venica\u2019s grandfather, Daniele, taught him that while we can\u2019t control everything, we can learn to listen - first and foremost to Mother Nature - and respond with sensitivity and awareness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since then, <\/span><b>each wine Venica &amp; Venica produces<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has become a unique story of the year\u2019s challenges and opportunities, capturing the essence of an unrepeatable moment. Each wine speaks through its aromas and flavors, representing the climate, the soil\u00a0 and the care it has received.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Gianni Venica<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, joined by <\/span><b>Serena Venica<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the fourth generation of the family, underscored the inseparable bond between the winery and the Collio region. Serena, who brings innovation to the company\u2019s roots and identity, stated: \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I handle management control in the company, but I also focus on strategies and methods that foster effective and efficient change in the realm of change management. Gianni always looks to the future. His vision is highly dynamic and evolving, yet deeply rooted. I\u2019d describe him as an innovator bound to tradition and, of course, to the land<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Extempore<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> - Gianni added - <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a wine that combines tradition with a forward-looking approach. It\u2019s a new interpretation of Sauvignon, our flagship wine, embodying our commitment to highlight the region\u2019s essence in every wine. Once again, it brings us back to our place of origin\u201d.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the name suggests,\u201d <\/span><b>Extempore\u201d reminds us that within time lies a challenge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. And that challenge often involves finding time to pause, reflect, and grow. \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Extempore itself<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> - noted Ornella Venica - <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a new challenge, a step in our continuous journey of seeking new opportunities to improve, protect, and enhance what we love most. It\u2019s a Sauvignon that represents not only a fresh interpretation of our land but also our approach to handling the unexpected with creativity, innovation, and a deep respect for our roots. Moreover, it\u2019s a wine born from an unplanned vinification that needs time to reveal itself: vibrant and dynamic, it opens in the glass\u201d.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Facing the unpredictable: experiences of Fabiano Benedetti and Marco Tonni.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Time, the value of the unexpected, and the capacity to transform it into growth opportunities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were the main themes of a <\/span><b>roundtable<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> moderated by renowned wine journalist <\/span><b>Adua Villa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, featuring guests from diverse fields who share a creative approach to handling the unpredictable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Fabiano Benedetti<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, CEO of beanTech, shared his personal story of how his entrepreneurial journey began. \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company started as a gamble<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> - he explained <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-. Massimiliano Alziutti, an old classmate, and I reconnected by chance after years in different careers. We couldn\u2019t have predicted that our reunion would spark something significant, but it\u2019s in moments like these that spontaneity plays a key role\u201d.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Benedetti highlighted how unexpected challenges often lead to the greatest opportunities. \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Life doesn\u2019t always go as planned. Sometimes, it\u2019s the unforeseen events that push us to explore new paths, to reinvent ourselves. It was thanks to those early challenges and our willingness to take risks that beanTech became a leading company in the tech sector\u201d.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, Benedetti emphasized <\/span><b>the importance of adaptability<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: \u201cSpontaneity isn\u2019t just about chance events but about recognizing and transforming them into opportunities. This is what has allowed us to grow and innovate in a constantly evolving industry like technology.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Marco Tonni<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a highly experienced agronomist and sustainability consultant, offered insights into the viticulture world, stressing <\/span><b>the close connection between nature and its unpredictability<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and on the climate and environmental challenges he addresses with his team at Sata. \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nature often expresses itself through sudden, spontaneous events<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> - he explained <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-. Our job is to interpret them, not to react impulsively, but to adapt in ways that minimize environmental impact\u201d.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tonni underlined the importance of deep awareness: \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We need to be aware and become so by analyzing and studying the land. Only then can we understand how to act in ways that minimize impact on the soil and environment. The vine, unlike us, cannot move; its fate is bound to the soil in which it takes root, and our task is to make that soil hospitable. To do so, we must go deep, reasoning like roots\u201d.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this context, Tonni presented <\/span><b>the Biopass method<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We developed this method to evaluate soil quality and determine if it\u2019s truly hospitable for the vine. The best wines come from the best soils, and biodiversity, both underground and above, is key to wine quality. Without biodiversity, terroir - the wine\u2019s very essence - cannot exist.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This practical approach mirrors Venica &amp; Venica\u2019s strategy in addressing these challenges. \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our work<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> -\u00a0 the Venica family explained - <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is based on this principle: with Tonni\u2019s help, we closely observe the soil, study it, analyze its composition and biodiversity. Only through a deep understanding of these elements we can find sustainable solutions that respect the environment and allow the vine to express itself, giving life to authentic wines that faithfully reflect our region\u201d.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once again, it\u2019s about <\/span><b>the importance of stopping to measure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the years<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> - continued Ornella Venica - <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we\u2019ve asked ourselves many questions, and this has led us, over a decade ago, to pursue the path of measurement. Since then, our awareness of conservation has grown with us\u201d.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Measuring sustainability.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another key moment of the event was the presentation of <\/span><b>Venica &amp; Venica\u2019s 2024 Sustainability Report<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ornella Venica outlined the winery\u2019s commitment to environmental and community stewardship: \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For us, sustainability isn\u2019t just a word, but an everyday action. For over ten years, we\u2019ve measured each step we take, aiming to reduce our environmental impact and give back to the land that has given so much to us<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sustainability Report is more than a document; <\/span><b>it\u2019s a story of responsibility and awareness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, shaped by questions, reflections, and bold choices. \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019ve learned to stop and measure<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> - Ornella concluded - <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">because it\u2019s the only way we can truly grow, ensuring a better future not only for our winery but also for our children and our community<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Report, titled \u201c<\/span><b><i>Stories of Life and Vines,\u201d<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> serves as a narrative of daily life in the winery and stands as a testament to the belief that awareness comes from pausing, measuring results, and planning future steps.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Wine as an expression of time.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0The discussion also touched on the concept of time, which challenges us yet offers space for growth. <\/span><b>Carlo Cambi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, journalist, cited Saint Augustine in observing that time, in itself, does not exist. \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Past, present, and future <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">- Cambi said - <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">exist only within the human soul as the present. Memory is the present of the past, attention is the present of the present, and anticipation is the present of the future\u201d.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In our fast-paced lives, time is scarce, but <\/span><b>wine shared offers time back to us.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was beautifully illustrated by the Extempore tasting, a wine that tells the measure of a winemaker\u2019s time, embodying the region, challenges, and foresight: the foresight to wait, to see if a spontaneous gesture or occurrence can open new paths in both wine and our personal and professional lives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The same foresight<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> - noted Carlo Cambi - <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that the Venica family showed in making their children part of the company\u2019s opportunity.
